AVANCE (A-vahn-ceh), the Spanish word for “advance” or “progress,” has been serving the needs of low-income families since its founding in Texas in 1973. AVANCE Houston offers programs that are designed to fully prepare students to succeed in school and transition to college.
I am so excited; the AVANCE- Annual Luncheon was a resounding success. More than 200 community leaders and supporters joined us April 7 at the Junior League of Houston. We talked about this year’s achievements and our plans going forward. It also provided the opportunity to hear from graduates of the program and to learn about their successes since participating.
Luz E. Flores has been designated to lead AVANCE-Houston, a United Way agency offering parenting, preschool, adult education, and workforce training serving nearly nine-thousand individuals annually in 20 locations across the city.
In recognition to thirty years of dedication and commitment to inspiring, mentoring, and serving others, AVANCE Houston Deputy Director, Luz Flores received the Wise Woman Award by the Houston Woman Magazine on August 19th, 2015.
